Hi, Mr. Ma!
你好
Hi.
早上好
Good morning!
Good morning! Nice to meet you!
Welcome to the world’s first
3D printed Chinese-style courtyard.
This place is very impressive.
All of these were 3D printed.
There are three bedrooms,
a kitchen and a living room.
Everything is here.
Very impressive!
We spent only a week’s time
to complete this house.
If we were to build it
in the traditional way,
it’d take at least a year.
This house is a fulfillment of
Ma’s childhood dream
and he’s able to achieve it
because of one cutting edge technology – 3D printing.
When I looked at the house
after it’s being completed,
I kept thinking that
I had seen it somewhere before.
Then I thought about my childhood,
when I was playing with mud houses,
I had a lot of similar ideas
to build houses in the future
so that when we grow up
everyone can own a home.
I was also thinking about
how I could do it easily and quickly.
This has always been on
my mind since I was young.
To bring his dream to
reality took Ma 17 years.
When I first started my construction business,
I witnessed a tragic accident on site,
I witnessed a tragic accident on site,
a worker fell off the building.
I told my friend right then,
wouldn’t it be great if the house
could be built with a machine instead.
He said that it was impossible.
I said cars, and even planes were built by machines,
why couldn’t we do it with houses?
The more I thought about it, the more I felt that
this was something worth trying.
However, Ma’s idea seemed too avant garde for most.
No one believed he would be able to
change the way buildings are constructed.
I told many about my idea,
and the more I talked about it,
the more disbelief and objection I faced.
But all this just strengthened my determination
on making my idea a reality.
So what if there’s no one in the world
using a machine to build a house?
Why can’t we do it?
I was determined to make it happen.
This is how it all got started,
This is how it all got started,
and I’ve been at it for over a decade,
and still doing it now.
After years of perseverance,
Ma’s hard work has finally paid off.
His team has successfully
3D printed buildings of various architectural styles,
and is now leading the world’s largest 3D building
cluster right here in Shanghai.
Unlike a conventional construction site,
this site requires only three to five workers,
this site requires only three to five workers,
a printer, a crane and an excavator.
A 4000 square meter floor space
can be completed in just seven to ten days,
at 50% to 70% of the traditional cost.
Mr. Zhu?
你好
Hello!
Hi, Anthony. Nice to meet you!
Welcome!
What we are printing
now is the office headquarters
of the industrial park.
After we complete a floor area,
we will install the external wall structure.
The wall is pre-printed at the factory,
and then transported here for installation.
Zhu Shouxun is a 3D printing architectural designer
with over ten years of experience.
When Ma first set out to fulfill
his 3D printing architectural dream,
Zhou was still a student
studying industrial design.
When I was in school,
I came across such ideas from magazines.
It’s not something the general public would know,
and even to us,
it was just a concept.
I later found out that
the concept has already become a reality.
It’s a completely new thing.
I feel that we have all seen
great technological advancement in our lives,
but in the construction sector,
there doesn’t seem to have a major breakthrough
like this for thousands of years.
And when I found out that we could use digital technology
to construct buildings I was completely intrigued.
Inspired by Ma,
Zhou developed a keen interest in
3D printing architecture.
Wow! Check this out!
So this machine is really
the heart of the entire of process, right?
Not only that.
The core of our technology lies
in the printing material.
We can take a closer look here.
These are the materials we use,
it’s a combination of construction waste
and industrial waste from steel factories
and industrial waste from steel factories.
So it feels a lot firmer than traditional concrete.
That might be a little more runny.
Um, but it’s very impressive
how quickly this dries once it's laid down.
So I can see that makes it more uh possible
for them for you to
stack layer upon layer.
Very impressive.
Compared to traditional building materials,
Ma’s 3D printing technology has a unique advantage,
it’s able to utilize materials such as industrial
and construction waste.
We realized that building construction
requires a lot of resources,
and very often the materials come from mining.
and very often the materials come from mining.
This is very damaging to the environment.
Then we discover that 3D printing technology is able
to utilize not only natural materials
like sandstone and cement,
it can also use recycled industrial waste collected
from demolished building sites.
This construction waste can become raw materials
This construction waste can become raw materials
that allow us to print quality
buildings cheap and fast.
Ma and his team currently
hold more than 225 national
and 25 international patents,
使公司
making his company
the only one in the world
to be able to commercialize
3D architectural printing technology.
Ella Liu has been with WINSUN since 2014.
She was instrumental in establishing
the company’s presence worldwide.
And her biggest achievement
to date is securing a deal with
the government of Dubai
to build an office park,
the world’s first 3D printed office park.
I can remember clearly
about our first overseas project in Dubai.
In the beginning, they contacted US company and European company.
Because they thought
the high technology must come from developed countries.
But after they contacted these companies,
they told the Dubai government,
they were just in the study stage,
they couldn’t print any real project.
Then they approached us.
When they came to our company,
they saw the printed houses.
At that time, they told us
it was very amazing and
they think this is the
first printed houses in the world.
To date, more than 280 companies
and organizations from over 100 different countries
have approached WINSUN
to explore collaboration opportunities.
But, Ma has a bigger vision.
Is this your personal garden?
是的
Yeah.
Very strong!
These vegetables can be eaten directly.
I have developed this habit,
I’ll grow plants
and flowers in places
I work and live.
I like observing nature
as I find inspirations within them.
Our company has been around for over a decade,
so why didn’t we print more houses
so why didn’t we print more houses
but choose to work on domestic
infrastructure projects instead?
This is because our goal
has always been using 3D printing technology
to stop damaging and better our environment,
to stop damaging and better our environment,
secondly, to use reusable and recyclable materials
to construct basic infrastructure,
to construct basic infrastructure.
And maybe even recycle what we had constructed
And maybe even recycle what we had constructed
and reuse
the materials in other buildings
or infrastructure projects.
At first I thought I came here to
see some exotic buildings
and learn about the new technology that’s creating them.
But after spending time with the team,
I now realize that the driving force
behind the success of these 3D printing techniques
is not the advanced technology,
but the people who work in the industry here.
I'm really impressed with the core values of the people here.
Their concern for the safety of the construction workers,
their commitment to protecting the environment,
and they’re responsible disposal of waste.
My hope is that through their commitment to such ideals,
This team will inspired others to follow their example.
I hope to apply this technology on
a wider construction field and in the lifestyle sector.
My wish is to extend 3D printing construction technology to the world.
My wish is to extend 3D printing construction technology to the world.
My wish is to create one architectural miracle
after another with 3D printing technology.
